Top of Zion Relay

Shannon joined her cousin, Michelle Harvey, and the rest of Logan Palmer's team in the Top of Zion Relay. She stepped in three days before the race to help the team who had lost a runner. Logan's parents, Kathy and Ray Palmer, volunteered during the race and thankfully provided an extra large clean "bug" sprayer for the daytime legs. Shannon as runner #9 ran twice in the afternoon heat of 105F and once in the night completing that leg at 2:15AM. Unfortunately, the night time legs were through Bryce Canyon--too dark to enjoy the red rock beauty.

Shannon at 15 years old was nearly the youngest runner participating. She did well and her Nike running watch can prove it, but she doesn't have a desire to do it again. She said, " I can get my running thrills in other ways."

Biking to Bridal Veil Falls

After cajoling, urging, pleading and threatening Daniel agreed to bike with Whitney and me from Canyon View Park to Bridal Veil Falls and back. Forty minutes and six miles later we were glad we did it. We missed Shannon who is running in the Top of Zion Relay today and tomorrow. Here are some pics:)

The path near the pools at the bottom of the falls were very congested. Large trout have been stocked in a feeding pond sectioned off from the fall's path to Provo River. The kids love to spend a quarter in a fish food dispenser to feed the fish. They look like they have been fed a lot.

New Boating Tube

After much nagging Daniel finally got to go boating yesterday. Bob even did a little water skiing. The water at Utah Lake was surprising calm at 5 PM. My fun summer activities have been severely curtailed by my following the counsel of my physical therapist. I have a classic case of tennis elbow on the right side..."flibberty jibbits!"  I should have got going on the physical therapy in February and been ready to roll for summer sports.  I think I probably shouldn't mow the lawn, either:)

If Mom Were a "My Little Pony"

I love this sketch Whitney created on the white board. Summer has provided time enough to watch episodes of My Little Pony on Netflix--mind you the kids are 10 years old and older. Notice the kokopelli on the rump.

Crafts at YW's Camp

We had a fun afternoon crafting at the first day at YW's camp. Gotta love Pinterest for the ideas:) stamped metal necklaces, fabric flowers on headbands and doodle painting on river rocks.
"Nieng Butter," a Whitney saying.

Flag Ceremony

Aunt Janelle

Shannon's sunglasses are not retro.
They are vintage from the 1970's.
I think they were Uncle Paul's.

Whitney's UT Summer Games

Whitney and I dreaded the drive to the Utah Summer Games this year. It was required that Whitney attend as part of her gymnastics team. She competed at the Gold level. We were lucky in a numbers of ways. A gymnastic and her mother wanted to carpool together and that provided entertaining conversation. When we arrived we discovered there were only 10 other gymnastics besides nearly all of the Patterson Soft Landing crew of which we are a part; consequently, we were not going to have a long meet. We were expecting to arrive home around 1:30AM. Instead we arrived home at 11:30PM.  Much better.

Whitney performed well and received a 36.42
and a silver all around.
