An Invitation to Prom

Onward towards Prom season.  Shannon received an invitation to Prom from Marcos Estrada this evening. What a classy request, a dozen red roses, helium-filled balloons and hand crafted ART including a tidbit of poetry,"Out of all the fishes in the sea would you go to Prom with me?" The art always gets me. I love it.

Little sisters are required to mock.
The helium balloons were a blast even thought they did cause a bit of light headedness. Here's a link to the Google+video post. Click here.

Preference Photos for Shannon

I love taking the photos for my kids' proms, preferences, sadie's and such, but this was the biggest group indoors with 10 couples. I hate indoor shoots, but the kids weren't back from the "day-date" soon enough in the afternoon on this February day. Shannon and I needed to come home a bit early from the Simplot Track meet in Pocatello, ID, to finish hemming her dress. Shan even made a white chocolate rose boutonniere for her date, Bobby Dayley. The photo shoot took a little over an hour and I missed the prime rib at the Stake Valentines Sweetheart Ball! I love rare prime rib.

Simplot Track Meet

Holt Arena @Idaho State University

Shan's team is on the left in navy tanks.

I would have never guessed that this Simplot Track meet in Pocatello, ID, was the second largest in the US. By the number of spectators in the stands I would have never "thunk it." This was on a Thursday--the day the mile and 2-mile races were run and that was the reason. Everyone came for the sprints on Friday. Wow, the body types for sprints is totally different than for the long distances. Big gluts help make for quick sprinters. Shannon ran the mile and PR'd--personal record. That's great to do that as a runner.

These kids are awesome and fun to be around. I didn't get enough sleep, but one of the team member's families let us stay at their family recreational home in McCammon, ID, near Lava Hot Springs. It was the home the team member's dad grew up in. Long gone are my days going to fast food restaurants at 11:30PM. I had to take a nap the next morning during the track meet before driving home that afternoon.

Shannon ran the 4 by 400m relay--twice around this track.

He-Man and Masters of the Universe

I graduated from high school in 1983, so I would have been about 15 when He-Man, the alter-ego of Prince Adam, was created. I never watched it. Never heard of it until Shannon's friend, Tate, texted her a link to a dubbed YouTube clip. Now, He-Man, coupled with an awesome song, What's Up?, written by 4 Non Blondes (performed by whom?) permeates my brain first thing in the morning till late at night. I'm feeling a little peculiar...What's goin' on? YouTube version.

Bob Walks Karen and Her Camera

"Walkies! Walkies!" Bob might have well been calling that out to me. I'd been panting to go out at the door all afternoon. It was the first day of blue sky, new snow and no pollution since the snowstorm. I wanted a walk at Big Springs. Lucky for me my husband doesn't care "squat" about the Super Bowl--neither do I. No child would attend, but that didn't keep Bob and me from having a great walk and talk, or walk, talk and listen:)

Perfect Buddy for Skiing Brighton

I’ve literally been praying for snow. We do have season ski passes and some Go Cards we need to use, so finally it snowed enough in the mountains that we skied yesterday. Usually we avoid Saturdays, but it wasn’t that bad. We certainly weren’t alone on the hill, but the snow was good. Daniel and I were ski buddies, while Dad and Shan took out all their energy on Milly and the mogels. By lunch and 8 runs they were so exhausted they had to drag Daniel and I away from the slopes.  Just kidding.  A snow squall set in on Daniel and I will we were leaving pristine “S” marks on the runs of  Snake Creek, so we were very cold and our neck gators were standing up by themselves because they were frozen by mouth fog. We were willing to go home.
