Yesterday
we arrived at the SVR cabin around 6PM. The inside of the cabin was frigid. 43̊ F outside, 43̊ F inside. Bob got the wood stove fired up and we also turned on some
baseboard radiators. Everything was so cold that even with the stove going it
was several hours before we all decided to discard the extra blankets and
parkas we had wrapped around ourselves.
We
keep finding black widow spiders in the garage. Daniel found a tiny one this
morning. The salamander is hiding and hopefully will last another season
hibernating in it's basement tomb. Bob looked at the electric meter here at the
cabin and figured it cost at least $10 of electricity the first day to warm up the main floor of the cabin. The electric meter slowed down it's expensive rotations after the first day once things were warm and the wood stove and gotten really hot. My dad said that it cost about $100 per month for the wifi
and satellite and he was going to turn it off after we were done winterizing
the cabin for them.
Here we are once things warmed up. Notice the absence of parkas and comforters. |
We all love the wifi. My dad is so techno-hip! |
I
played the sixth hole a couple of times this afternoon before a couple of golfers
came through. These ladies were slow as molasses in January and took about 14 hits piece to make it to the green. Grrrrrr. The morning had been far too cold to golf, but this afternoon the sun
shone around the gray clouds. Daniel drove for me. Whitney accompanied us once before she lost patience.
However, the morning was so cold that as Daniel was
riding home in the car his feet began to itch as they warmed up. Flip flops and
shorts didn't hack it in Thayne, WY during October at the playground equipment of the elementary school.
Too cold for my flip flop. |
I must say in Daniel's defense that at the beginning of our play at the school there wasn't the wind that picked up 30 minutes later. It was brutal on the earballs.
